What the numbers mean for a pour

Pours needed with a limit of 2 in per pour. Worked out with the layer planner.

Total thicknessPoursEarliest start of last pourNotes
1 in (25 mm)1no wait (one pour)–
2 in (51 mm)1no wait (one pour)–

The data sheet does not publish a time between pours, so no schedule is calculated.

What the manufacturer says

Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.

Other notes

  • The hardener SDS names Polytek Development Corp. of Easton, PA as manufacturer, the same address printed on the Alumilite TDS.SDS B
  • Mix thoroughly for 3-5 minutes, using a power mixer at hand speed for a gallon and stir sticks for smaller amounts.TDS
  • The TDS states the cured resin is FDA compliant under 21 CFR 175.300 for food-contact surfaces.TDS
  • The TDS lists tensile strength of 8420 psi, elongation of 6.30% and a shelf life of 1 year.TDS

Layering

  • Projects deeper than 2 inches are built up from multiple thick layers.TDS

Temperature

  • For pours of 2 gallons or more Alumilite suggests keeping the room near 65°F and running fans to shed heat.TDS

Heat

  • The TDS lists a heat deflection temperature of 130°F for the cured resin.TDS

UV and color

  • The resin has UV inhibitors but will still yellow over time, and Alumilite generally does not recommend it for outdoor use.TDS

Surface preparation

  • For river tables Alumilite recommends sealing the wood first and making sure it is completely dry.Page

Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree

  • Working time: Working Time 60-90 minutes (TDS) vs. extended working time of up to 60 minutes (product page FAQ) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Full cure: Full Cure Time 7-10 days (TDS) vs. For a complete cure and maximum strength, it's recommended to wait 5 to 7 days (product page FAQ) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
