What the numbers mean for a pour

Automatic planning is suspended for this product: its documents give more than one depth limit (1/8 in, 1/4 in, 1 in) for different applications or sources, and we do not choose between them. Read the published wording and enter the limit that fits your project in the layer planner.

What the manufacturer says

Paraphrased from the manufacturer’s documents.

Other notes

  • Gel time for a 150 g mass is 30 minutes at 77°F per ASTM D2471.TDS
  • The TDS body text estimates an average working time of 10-15 minutes at room temperature for most applications.TDS
  • Minimum cure before use is listed as 3-5 days, while the cure schedule text says ready for light use in 48 hours.TDS
  • Cured density is published as 1.11 g/cm³ (cured solid, not mixed liquid).TDS
  • TotalBoat says not to use a drill mixer with this product.TDS

Layering

  • Before the next pour the previous layer must have cooled to room temperature; it need not be hardened or tack-free, and no surface prep is needed unless it has cured past fingernail-soft, in which case scuff-sand lightly.TDS

Heat

  • The cure is exothermic; mixed epoxy left in the cup beyond its working time can reach 200-300°F.TDS
  • Items hotter than 125°F should not be placed on the cured surface.Page

Temperature

  • Below 70°F the resin may be too viscous to release bubbles, and above 80°F it may set too fast and overheat.TDS

Surface preparation

  • Wood and other porous substrates must always get a seal coat, cured hard and sanded with 80-120 grit, before flood coating.TDS

UV and color

  • Under extreme UV exposure, a clear urethane or varnish topcoat is advised to help resist yellowing.TDS
  • The product page states it is not UV resistant and should be coated with a UV-blocking varnish for outdoor use.Page

Coverage

  • The TDS gives coverage of 6.4 sq ft at 1/4 in per 1-gallon kit and 12.8 sq ft at 1/4 in per 2-gallon kit.TDS

Where the manufacturer’s documents disagree

  • Mix ratio by weight (A:B): 100A:86B (TDS) vs. 1.2A:1B (product page specifications) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Working time: 20 minutes at 70°F (TDS data table) vs. 10-15 minutes average at room temperature (TDS text) vs. 30 minutes @ 77°F (product page) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Maximum pour depth per layer: Up to 1/4" per coat (TDS) vs. 1/8"-1/4" per layer for coating and 1" per layer for casting (product page specifications) vs. each coat up to 1/8" thick (product page FAQ) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Time between pours: 3 hours minimum at 70°F (TDS) vs. additional coats every 4-8 hours without sanding (product page FAQ) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • Recommended temperature: 70-80°F, 0-60% RH (TDS) vs. 70-80°F with 0-85% humidity (product page) (TDS, Page). The table shows the value from the TDS.
  • UV and yellowing: UV Stable: Yes (TDS) vs. UV Resistant: No (product page) (TDS, Page).
